A Kid Again
How They Help
How does your organization help the community?
Families thrust into the situation of having to care for a child with a life-threatening illness are not prepared and usually unequipped to deal with what follows. They often feel they have lost their hold on the situation and their own lives. A Kid Again helps to bring back a sense a “normal life” for their child and themselves.
We strive to give these kids an opportunity to have fun and feel like they should— the kid they are meant to be each day. Our adventures are designed for kids to have something to look forward to, to have fun with friends, and give their sisters, brothers, and parents a break as well. Siblings are often left on the sidelines due to the stress and necessary attention and time demands of the ill child. The adventures also give families a time to connect and network with other families that can empathize and understand what each another is facing. They connect and become resources to one another as well.
Program Descriptions
We offer over 40 programs/outings each year. Here is a sample of what we offer:
Kings Island Adventure – Each summer, we take 3,500-4,000 A Kid Again family members for a fun day at Kings Island Amusement Park in Mason, Ohio. Each person attending the Adventure receives free parking, an admission ticket, a free t-shirt, lunch, passes to visit Dinosaurs Alive!, and all kids receive $10.00 to spend in the park. And they get to enjoy one of the greatest amusement parks in America!
Various Adventures – In addition to our annual Kings Island Adventure, we also take families to other great Adventure locations such as Cedar Point, The Cleveland Indians, The Cincinnati Reds, The Columbus Blue Jackets, the Columbus Crew, a Father-Son basketball clinic with the Ohio State University Men’s Basketball team, a Mother-Daughter day of pampering at the Charles Penzone Grand Salon, Dream Night at the Columbus Zoo, and an annual Holiday Party at year’s end plus many more!
How many volunteers does your organization use?
We have over 500 volunteers helping A Kid Again each year.
